External Development Leadership
A principal will design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but, in fact, build community, the leader proactively creates with staff, opportunities for parents/guardians, community and business representatives to participate as “stockholders” in the school such that continued investment of resources and good will are not left to chance.

Continual Reachout
Middlesex Elementary is an incredibly rural school. Parental involvement is a constant and continual challenge for us. The old adage of "feed them and they will come" does not come to fruition at our school. We work aimlessly to get parents to come to our school. We have learned that presence does not ensure concern for their child's education. Our parents are highly concerned with their child's progress. Communication in present, we just need to learn ways to attract their physical presence.

Element 6B: Federal, State and District Mandates: The principal designs protocols and processes in order to comply with federal, state, and district mandates.
Keeping Up with the Mandates
My NELA Journey has discussed ways to manage time, and balance everything that comes at an administrator. My residency has reinforced this concept in spades. I have made it a commitment to walk through the building right after the tardy bell rings. In this walk through letting students know I am in the building and present. In completing this I receive multiple tasks, student updates, and various other tidbits of information are being shared. NELA has taught me that I have to come up with my own individual way of keeping up with these tasks.
