Problem of Practice
In reviewing data from previous year's at my school, a noted trend that was seen throughout cohorts was the overall lowness in our current 5th graders. In diving deeper, I was able to notice a direct correlation between their class grades and their test results. In talking with administration, previous teachers, and the students I noticed a disconnect in classroom performance. Working with my mentor, the counselor, and 5th grade teachers we developed "Power Lunch". This is a time twice per week where selected 5th grade students are able to bring any work that they have outstanding and complete with administration. When we started this we did not know the overall impact that we would have with these students.
We have seen tremendous growth with these students, are very excited with what the current data is showing us, and are very hopeful that the transfer in improved class grades will carryover to their end-of-grade tests. Pictured below is my logic model for coming up with the system and outcomes of what was hoped for in the carrying out this problem of practice.
